ATMIS chief salutes Uganda troops for delivering stability in Somalia

The Special Representative of the Chairperson of the Head of the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS), Ambassador Mohamed Al-Amine Souef, visited the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) troops at the Ceel Jaale Forward Operating Base in Somalia today to assess the security situation and brief them on the upcoming drawdown phase.

Ambassador Souef commended the UPDF troops for their dedication to fostering peace, stability, and strong community ties. He called for social cohesion and reconciliation for the betterment and development of Somalia.

"I want to thank the government of Uganda led by Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and UPDF for the good work done in the liberation of Somalia. I therefore call for social cohesion and reconciliation for the betterment and development of Somalia ," Amb Souef said.

He assured the locals of the continuity of security even after post-ATMIS operation. He thus called upon Somalis to forget the civil war and clan conflicts and build the country together.

"ATMIS is part of the way community, continue to support them they will continue to protect you as they can," he tasked the Somali locals.

The Sector One Commander, Brig Gen Anthony Lukwago Mbuusi, has hailed the successful efforts of clan mediation, cordial working

civil military relationship, key leaders engagement, enabling environment for Somali Federal Government forces to take on key security roles and the need for more Humanitarian assistance .

The locals of Ceel jaale led by Chief Yusuf Osman Ali welcomed the team to great city with hospitable people accommodating all clans and people of Somalia with excellent cooperation.
